About Us

Hi there! My name is Jen Houy Showalter, and I'm the owner of Dog Days!

I got my start in the dog daycare industry in 2005 when I got my first job at a local daycare in Duncansville. I quickly fell in love with the concept (and the dogs!) and knew it was the perfect fit for me. While earning my degree from Penn State, I continued working at a dog daycare in State College. Once I graduated from the Smeal College of Business, I was finally equipped to open my own facility. I felt that there was a definite need in the area for luxury boarding accommodations, so I set out to fill the void. In 2011, I opened my first shop in Greenwood off of East Pleasant Valley Boulevard (where we now have our doggy bus stop). Though the location was very convenient, it was a small commercial rental that we soon outgrew, so I set my sights on bigger and better things.

Fast forward to 2017, and I was finally able to design and build my very own facility on my home property in Riggles Gap! With over 20 acres of farm land, we finally have the perfect space for the dogs to run, play, and just be DOGS! I spent years dreaming of the layout, decor, equipment, and set up - with over a decade of doggy daycare & boarding experience at that point. We have slowly added to our team and currently have a staff of seven hard-working, dog-loving ladies that are living their dreams working in this industry.  I feel that we have created a wonderful, well thought-out home away from home for your best buddies! I hope you will check us out -- we'd love to spoil your pup!
